The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train Station, also known as Whoosh Karawang, officially began operations on Tuesday (December 24, 2024). The station is located in Wanakerta Village, Teluk Jambe Barat District, Karawang Regency, just about 10 minutes away from the Karawang New Industry City (KNIC). With this opening, Karawang Station completes the four main stations in the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project. The expedited opening of this station was carried out following the directives of the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandi, and Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.
Since its launch on October 17, 2023, the Whoosh High-Speed Train has served more than 7 million passengers, with a daily average of 14,000 passengers, increasing to over 21,000 in December. Currently, the train schedule includes routes from Halim Station to Karawang, Karawang to Halim, as well as Karawang to Tegalluar and Padalarang, including return trips. Departures from Halim to Karawang and Karawang to Halim are expected to operate approximately every hour, while routes from Karawang to Tegalluar and Padalarang are available periodically throughout the day.
The Coordinating Minister for IPK, AHY, stated that the presence of Karawang Station is expected to boost the economic value of the Karawang region, especially with its proximity to strategic industrial areas such as KNIC. In addition to local economic benefits, this transportation is also anticipated to have a significant positive impact on the national economy. If full integration with central Karawang and other areas is achieved, the region's development potential is projected to grow substantially.
