Indonesian officials participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Karawang New Industry City in West Karawang on Dec. 6. Karawang — Senior Indonesian government officials broke ground on the Karawang New Industry City (KNIC) on Dec. 6. Strategically located approximately 50 kilometers east of Jakarta, KNIC supports the Indonesian government’s commitment to economic and social progress. Connected to major national transport infrastructure and designed as an industrial ecosystem that is built for innovation and growth, KNIC is poised to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the residents of Karawang and beyond.
Occupying approximately 200 hectares of land in the first phase of development, in the heart of Indonesia’s manufacturing capital, KNIC features first-rate infrastructure, digital connectivity, and exceptional facilities and amenities – all supported by the world’s best practices in township management. It is being built to maximize operational efficiency and synergy for partners and tenants in industry sectors such as automotive, construction materials, consumer electronics, and logistics services.
The KNIC groundbreaking ceremony was attended by more than 180 guests and graced by I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, Director General of International Industrial Access Defense and Development at the Industry Ministry; Tamba Parulian Hutapea, Deputy of Investment Planning at the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM); Ahmad Zamakhsyari, Vice Regent of the Karawang Regional Government; and Hari Santosa Sungkari, Deputy of Infrastructure at the Creative Economy Agency.
Government officials in attendance spoke of Karawang and KNIC’s immense potential to help companies innovate and grow, optimize productivity and strengthen competitive advantage.
According to I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, the government looks forward to the role that KNIC will play in revitalizing the industrial estate businesses and elevating Karawang’s status as a new economic center.
“I am confident that KNIC has the potential to generate sustainable growth and prosperity for the communities in Karawang, contributing to the nation’s economic agenda, in line with President Jokowi’s nine-point development program for Indonesia or Nawa Cita,” I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan said.
Tamba Parulian Hutapea reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s full support of global investment in infrastructure development in Indonesia, including the development of new industry cities in Karawang and the resulting positive economic impact and social benefits.
Echoing the same sentiment, Ahmad Zamakhsyari emphasized that the priority was to continually translate the progress of Karawang into economic benefits and prosperity for its people. He extended a warm welcome to future investors of KNIC as a world-class development for innovation and growth within a bolstered economy
