Jokowi Resmikan Pabrik Baterai Mobil Listrik Terbesar Se-Asia Tenggara di Karawang

President Joko Widodo inaugurated the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem plant owned by PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power in Karawang New Industry City (KNIC), West Java, on Wednesday (3/7/2024). According to the President, this inauguration signifies Indonesia's commitment to competing in the global production of batteries and electric vehicles. "With the utterance of bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this morning I inaugurate the South Korean battery and electric vehicle ecosystem plant in Indonesia," said Jokowi during the event.

The President revealed that this inauguration marks a new chapter for Indonesia to become a global player in the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem. Indonesia has abundant natural resources (SDA), but these resources have been exported in raw form, which reduces added value for the country. The President emphasized that with the establishment of smelters and this electric vehicle battery plant, Indonesia can become a significant player in the global supply chain for electric vehicles. "We must truly enter and become a global player in the supply chain for vehicles," he added.

The President also stated that the battery and electric vehicle plant of PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power is the first and largest in Southeast Asia. He is confident that once this plant is operational, Indonesia will be able to compete with other countries worldwide. Several ministers and related officials attended the inauguration, including Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko.
