Cyber Security in the Industry 4.0 Era

Indonesia is welcoming the Industrial 4.0 era, which collaborates with network technology with automation systems to be adopted in various sectors such as trade, services, manufacturing products, and public services.

According to ITSEC, tangible forms that can be seen today are the use of Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digitizing products and services, consumer access, and manufacturing production processes.

This makes the cyber security sector have a very important role. This is a form of protection from attacks on network systems to intercept operating systems, access data/information illegally, extortion, and destroy networks and data.

President Director of PT ITSEC Asia, Andri Hutama Putra, revealed that cyber security played a major role in industry 4.0. It became an instrument for protecting network infrastructure from various cyber attacks by hackers to disrupt operational systems and devices.
"Cyberattacks target various fields, ranging from marketplaces, financial transactions, banking, to people's personal data. The potential for damage that occurs from this is getting bigger and has a serious impact on the operational performance of organizations as well as the public and consumers."

The important role of cyber security is recognized by the Indonesian National Police, who formed the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber). This Directorate is a work unit under Bareskrim. It is tasked with enforcing the law against cybercrimes by dealing with two crimes, namely computer crime, and computer-related crime.

This was explained directly by AKBP Iman Imanuddin, South Tangerang Police Chief. "Technology developments in the Industrial 4.0 era have made police institutions, in this case, the POLRI very concerned about cyber security aspects, thus forming the Directorate of Cyber Crimes."

"The forms of crime from this include hacking electronic systems (hacking), illegal interception, changing the appearance of websites (web defacement), system interference, to data manipulation," he said.

Iman also explained that Dittipidsiber also handles cybercrimes that use computers as a tool, such as online pornography, online gambling, online defamation, online extortion, online fraud, and hate speech), threats in the network (online threat), illegal access (illegal access), and data theft (data theft).

This makes the Police Institute need young talents with special skills and competencies and handle attacks that lead to cybercrimes.

Industry 4.0 makes the world globally enter the digital era that changes people's lifestyles and organizational activities. Various commercial and non-commercial organizations have started to transform through digitalization to improve services and competitiveness.

These conditions make cyber security important in preventing crimes related to digital systems.

This has increased the demand for experts who are, of course, very much needed in various industry elements. This was explained by the Chief Technology Officer of ITSEC Asia, Marek Bialoglowy.

“The Cybersecurity sector presents excellent career opportunities for young people. The workforce in this field must have technical capabilities and knowledge in applying the latest technology.

"The skills needed include programming, risk and mitigation analysis, intrusion detection, cloud security to encryption. Along with the development of digital technology related to increasing cyber-attacks around the world, career paths and opportunities presented by this sector are wide open, especially for those who have equipped themselves with the skills and knowledge needed,” he said.

Career opportunities in the Cybersecurity sector are increasingly open to providing various benefits covered by the community, both in terms of remuneration and attractive careers, experience serving abroad, to sophisticated equipment to support them in carrying out their work.

Marek also explained that to develop into a professional workforce in the IT industry, the skills that must be developed are continuous learning, deep technical knowledge, ability to solve complex problems, tough and able to cope with stress, and mastering technical skills writing and good communication.

"The best technical skills needed to work in the cybersecurity world include application security, cloud security, compliance, technical writing, secure programming, Digital Forensic and Incident Response (DFIR), and data analysis," he concluded.
